The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

On the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, teens are asked to go online and take a fun, engaging quiz that presents them with several real life scenarios involving sex and asks them to choose a course of action. The next National Day will take place on May 3, 2006. The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is organized by the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Over 630,000 teens participated in the 2005 National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy by taking the online quiz. The first annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy took place in 2002 and had 75,000 Quiz takers. In 2003, nearly 300,000 people from all fifty states took the National Day Quiz. In 2004, 560,000 individuals logged on and took the Quiz on the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The quiz is aimed at anyone aged 13 or over and is designed to teach the teens how to avoid a teen pregnancy. Many teens think that they know enough to avoid a teen pregnancy but it is obvious, after taking the test, that they did not know as much as they thought they did.

Teen pregnancy in the USA has declined over recent years but it is still a fact that about 35 percent of girls in the U.S. get pregnant at least once by age 20. A lot of teens are concerned about teen pregnancy, but still think that it cannot happen to them. Quite often a teen pregnancy results from the teens not planning to have sex and therefore not using appropriate protection. The online quiz for the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is designed to help teens come up with their own plans for avoiding pregnancy. The Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is supported by a number of different youth and health organizations. All of these supporters are dedicated to giving teens more awareness of how they can avoid becoming another teen pregnancy statistic.

The quiz itself is developed with the help and critique of teens including the Campaign own Youth Leadership Team, Teen People's 10,000 trendspotters, the Campaign's Youth Online Network, teen visitors to the Campaign's website, and many others. the idea behind having an internet-based quiz and information site rather than simply sending out leaflets to schools and youth organizations is the simple fact that teens spend a lot of time on the internet.

They also turn to the internet as the first point of research on any topic. Teens are comfortable using the internet and can access it from schools and other venues, even if they d not have internet access at home. Health professionals can also access the information on behalf of teen clients. After taking the Teen Pregnancy Quiz all participants are invited to visit the National Campaign's website to find further information regarding teen pregnancy and its prevention. They can also join the online network to help prevent teen pregnancy and be able to contribute to future quizzes and events.
