Using a Home Midstream Pregnancy Test
By using a midstream pregnancy test you don't have to collect urine in a cup or do anything other than hold the midstream pregnancy test stick under your urine stream for at least 5 seconds and then place it on a flat surface. When using this kind of home pregnancy test make sure you get one that has a control line so you can make sure the test is working and so you will know what the line should look like.
Evaporation Lines
One common mistake users of any midstream pregnancy test make is to keep the test strip around for a while and go back to it and look for the sign of pregnancy. If you do that, you're likely to get disappointed because what you're most likely seeing is an evaporation line. The test isn't going to develop any further after the 5 or so minutes it takes to initially develop. Once you get that result that is the only one you're going to get.
Some midstream pregnancy tests will work just as well for the woman who does wish to collect the urine in a cup and then dip the stick into the cup. The directions on the test you purchase will tell you if that will work if you prefer to conduct the test that way.
Digital Tests
Some midstream pregnancy tests have gone digital. EPT and Clearblue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test are two of the home pregnancy tests that have gone digital. You still hold the test stick in your urine stream but instead of just placing it on a flat surface to develop the results you place it back in a holder for about 3 minutes and then the results will be displayed in words instead of with a line.
As one might guess the words displayed in the result window are either PREGNANT or NOT PREGNANT which removes any confusion whatsoever. The digital midstream pregnancy tests all state that the holders can be used again as some of the kits come with 2 or 3 test strips but there is no refill pack available so with every package you buy you will get a new holder.
Regardless of which midstream pregnancy test you purchase, follow all of the directions exactly. Most of the test kits come with an 800 number that is answered by nurses in case you have questions. Furthermore, if you test positive or believe you are pregnant, see your doctor as soon as possible.
