EPT Early Pregnancy Test is now Error Proof Test
When the first home pregnancy test kit arrived on the American market in 1978 it was called EPT which stood for Early Pregnancy Test. The name has since been changed to Error Proof Test which is a reflection of the tremendous competition in this market.
In 2003 Consumer Reports tested 18 home pregnancy test kits and appropriately enough revealed their findings on CBS' The Early Show. Surprisingly, the pioneer EPT early pregnancy test did not come in first or even second as to the earliest a woman can learn she is pregnant by this method.
Actually the EPT early pregnancy test, while not the most sensitive test, and therefore not able to give the earliest results ranks about middle of the road as far as how early a woman can test using the EPT early pregnancy test. It does, however enjoy a well-earned reputation as being a reliable and easy to use and read home pregnancy test.
Digital Results
Having gone digital, the EPT early pregnancy test is still used with a midstream test strip only now the strip is inserted into a holder before and after the test and when the results are ready they are displayed using the words PREGNANT or NOT PREGNANT instead of lines that may be confusing to the user.
Even the non-digital EPT early pregnancy test is reliable and easy to use. It too comes with a pregnancy test strip that you hold in your urine stream for about 5 seconds and then place it on a flat surface. Within about 2 or 3 minutes you will see either a plus or minus sign in the results display window.
Technology 30 Years Ago
Women today are spoiled by the instant everything technology has brought to our world. Some of them would be very surprised to learn that the very first EPT early pregnancy test took two hours to process and took a little more work as you had to collect your urine in a cup and then use a medicine dropper to combine it in a test tube with the other ingredients, among them the red blood cells of sheep.
After you finished taking the test, you then had to place it in a dark corner and wait two hours. Then you could look in the mirror that you had previously placed under the test tube to see if a dark brown circle was present. If it was, you knew you were pregnant.
The home pregnancy tests of today do make it much more convenient and faster to find out if you are pregnant. Once you believe that you are you should see your doctor right away.
