Which Test is the Best Early Pregnancy Test

Early usually refers to being able to test for pregnancy either before you even miss your period or the first day of your missed period. Home pregnancy tests used to require that you be several days late before you could expect to get an accurate result but that has changed to a large degree.

Levels of hCG

By far, the best early pregnancy test is First Response because it can detect the lowest levels of the pregnancy hormone, hCG. Most of the home pregnancy tests can detect hCG at between 25 and 100 thousandths of an International Unit (25-100 mIU) However, First Response, as reported by Consumer Reports can detect hCG levels as low as 6.5 mIU.

Why is this important? The placenta produces the hormone, hCG once the embryo has attached itself to the uterine wall. It is the detection of this hormone that produces a positive result on a pregnant test, whether that test is conducted in the doctor's office or at home using a home pregnancy test kit. In fact, the urine test in the doctor's office is just about as accurate as a home pregnancy test.

Obviously, to a woman who is wondering if she is pregnant, she wants to know as soon as possible. Thus, to most women the best early pregnancy test is the one that will give them the results the quickest. Now since First Response can detect the pregnancy hormone almost immediately after it attaches itself to the uterine wall, it is indeed the best early pregnancy test hands down.

Results

There are other factors of course. It doesn't matter how fast you can get the results if you can't read them so being able to read the results without any confusion counts for a lot. Most of the home pregnancy test kits use the midstream test strip method which works when a woman holds the test strip in her urine stream for a few seconds and within 2 or 3 minutes she gets the results.

Some of the home pregnancy tests use a plus or minus sign to indicate whether the test is positive or negative and some of them use a line to mean a positive result and nothing if the test is negative. This kind is perhaps the most confusing because sometimes faint lines will appear which in reality are evaporation lines but may look like the positive result line to the person staring at the test strip.

Ultimately, the only best early pregnancy test that matters is the one that works the best for you. If you've tried one before and you like it and are comfortable using it then that one is probably the best early pregnancy test for you.
