How to Ensure Accurate Pregnancy Test Results

Many women get so nervous about wondering whether or not they are pregnant, they can't wait for an appointment with the doctor or in some cases, they may not want anyone to know that they could be pregnant so they need the privacy of being able to take a home pregnancy test yet it is very important to get an accurate pregnancy test result.

Read and Follow all the Directions

Yes it is simple. It's not rocket science but if you don't read all the directions you might miss the least little thing like how long to wait to get an accurate pregnancy test result. If you're having trouble urinating don't try to drink a lot of liquid to try to force yourself to urinate because doing so might dilute the amount of hCG in your urine and the test may not pick it up.

Use the First Urine of the Morning

There's a reason you're supposed to use the first urine of the morning or if you work nights and sleep days, the first urine when you awake. This is because there are higher levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG in the urine after it has been in the bladder for several hours.

Do not try to Re-Use the Test

Once it's done, it's done. You won't be able to re-use the kit and get an accurate pregnancy test result. It's only going to work one time. Many women like to buy the double pack so they can take the test again within a few days.

The smaller the amount of hCG the test will detect the more accurate pregnancy test result you're going to get early on anyway. If you're already a week or two late then it's not going to matter much which kit you use because they will all detect the amount of hCG in your urine once you're that late.

If you're just a day or two late, then you'll want to get one of the kits that will detect a small amount of the pregnancy hormone.

Don't buy a dusty kit on the bottom shelf of a store that doesn't sell very many of the home pregnancy test kits. The older ones, regardless of the brand name only measure the larger amounts of hCG so unless you're a week or two late, you'll most likely get a negative result.

If you think you are pregnant, regardless of whether you get a positive test result at home, see your doctor as soon as possible.
